Torro Utd entertained Parkvilla at Powderly Park this evening in what was a great advert for the coming ‘Summer Football’ season in front of a sizeable crowd

Parkvilla settle the quicker with some crisp passing and wide play but Torro soon adapted and both Aaron Englishby and Andy Tolan were denied by two great saves by the ‘villa keeper. The post also denied another chance. The match ebbed and flowed and Parkvilla were not without their chances.
Torro opened the scoring through Andy Tolan and took that lead into the break.

The second half saw Torro soak up Parkvilla pressure and try to exploit the gaps on the break. The game was at a pace that even referee Conor Byrne needed attention.
The introduction of youth players, Aaron Tolan and Peter Carroll gave fresh legs to Torro and with experienced players of the calibre of Peadar Farrelly, Steven Gavin and Paul Shields introduced from the bench Torro sensed victory. But those thoughts were put on hold when Parkvilla equalised with about 10 mins to go of normal time.

Gavin was being to cause the Parkvilla rearguard problems and this was compounded when they were reduced to 10 men.
First Farrelly delivered a free onto the head of Shields who headed over, then an oppourtunity fell to Gavin who rifled a shot at the ‘villa keeper who could only parry away.

Torro then earned a freekick on the edge of the square and Gavin stepped up to arrow a low drive into the Parkvilla net.

Parkvilla did have chances to salvage a point but a super save by Dan Shiels denied them

All in all a great start to life in Division 1 and if the games are of this quality they will be worth tipping up to Powderly Park more often.
